A classic Dutch Colonial and its two-layer detached garage, torn off, re-flashed, and re-roofed in a single day, with a shingle color chosen to match the house.
This classic Dutch Colonial in Pitman had a roof at the end of its life, and a detached garage carrying two full layers of old shingles. The homeowners loved the character of their home, the green shutters, the brick walkway, the mature landscaping, and wanted a new roof that fit the house rather than fighting it.
Color matters on a house like this. After looking at the home's existing accents, we recommended Owens Corning's Estate Gray, a color similar to the original roof but with subtle green undertones that tie into the shutters. Helping homeowners choose a shingle color that complements the whole house is something we do on every project, and it made all the difference here.

We tore off one layer from the house and two layers from the garage, a heavy disposal job, and inspected all of the decking once it was exposed.
During tear-off we found that every run of step flashing on the house was old and torn up. Step flashing on this home sat behind aluminum siding, which makes replacement tricky, but we carefully worked behind the siding and replaced over 100 linear feet of it with new 4x4x8 aluminum step flashing. Flashing is where most roofs actually fail, and reusing damaged flashing under a brand new roof is a shortcut we don't take.
The house also had an existing Gutter Helmet gutter guard system. We carefully removed it, completed the roof, and reinstalled it so it looked exactly as it did before we arrived.
We protected the house and landscaping with mesh roofing tarps and ground tarps, completed the entire project, house and garage, in one day, and finished with a full cleanup and magnetic sweep of the property.
Full tarp protection before tear-off, and Estate Gray Duration shingles going down over Deck Defense underlayment.
A crisp Estate Gray roof that looks like it was always meant to be on this house, with the green undertones picking up the shutters exactly as planned. The homeowners love the end result, and the reinstalled gutter guards look untouched.
Drone views of the finished roof on both the house and detached garage.
The homeowners were so happy with the roof that they later had us back to replace the windows on the detached garage.
